  Baptism Preparation

Scheduling A Baptism

To schedule a baptism, please contact Liturgy and Music Secretary, Barb Schenauer, at (262) 781-3480. She will answer questions and coordinate all details.

Baptisms can be celebrated at any weekend Mass, as long as no other special event or liturgical rite is already scheduled. Usually only one baptism will be celebrated per Mass. Baptisms are also celebrated, outside of Mass, at 12:30 P.M. on every third Sunday of the month. There is no limit to the number of baptisms during this ceremony.

Preparation for Baptism

The Roman Catholic Church’s official guidelines outlined in the Rite of Baptism for Children instructs us:

Because of the natural relationship, parents have a more important ministry and role in the baptism of infants than the godparents. Before the celebration of the sacrament, it is of great importance that parents, moved by their own faith or with the help of friends or other members of the community, should prepare to take part in the rite with understanding. They should be provided with suitable means such as books, instructions, and catechisms written for families” (Introduction, II, par. 5).

Baptism Preparation at St. Dominic

  • First Time Parents: Attend a two-session program. Session One explores the biblical and theological meanings of baptism. Session Two explains the symbols and actions of the baptismal rite.

  • Second Time Parents: Attend a one-night session in the home of a trained parish couple on the theme of building a family of faith.

  • Third Or More Time Parents: Discuss independent study options with the Adult and Family Minister based on their situation and needs.

If you have questions about baptism or desire more information, please contact Barb Schenauer (see above).
