The Saint Dominic Teen Choir has a relatively
short but distinguished history of performing music of quality
and beauty in service to the liturgy. The choir brings a high
level of musicianship to its singing of the great choral
treasures of the Church, from Gregorian Chant and simple
Renaissance polyphony through African-American Spirituals and
worthy contemporary repertoire of the new millennium, which it
presents for liturgies at Saint Dominic Church in Brookfield.
The choir was founded by Director Timothy Benson
in 1994 as a means of giving junior high and high school
students an opportunity to use their musical talents for the
glory of God and for the sanctification and edification of the
faithful. The choir is composed entirely of young men and women
in grades seven through twelve, all of whom are active Saint
Dominic parishioners. In March of 2006, the choir appeared with
members of the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus in the parish’s Jubilee
Year concert, CD recordings of which were made available to the
parish.
Choir members maintain a schedule of Sunday
afternoon rehearsals from September through late May or early
June, and in addition to an ever-expanding repertoire, are
provided with regular training in proper vocal technique and
sight reading.
