Confirmation Vigil: Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 6:15 pm.
Confirmation Schedule
Confirmation Program: Grades 11th - 12th
Confirmation is a community's sacramental celebration of an
individual's mature and personal affirmation of the gift of faith, which seals
the work of the Spirit begun in baptism.
Immediate Preparation for Candidacy for Confirmation
|
The immediate preparation prior to candidacy for Confirmation is
viewed in terms of formation. You must have successfully participated in
the parish 10th grade Lifelong Faith Formation program, or for catholic high school
teens, completion of your religion/theology classes. If you have NOT
participated in one of these areas and would like to seek Confirmation you need
to contact the Director of Youth Ministry.
Candidates for Confirmation and a parent are required to attend
an orientation to the Confirmation program in May. At this orientation all
requirements for the program are laid out in detail and candidates will receive
a Handbook.

Final Formal Preparation Requirements
A specific program is conducted in the parish for all those
wishing to be candidates for Confirmation. This program is conducted
annually and a candidate must comply with the following in order to be a
candidate for Confirmation:
-
Each candidate must have been previously baptized and
have received the sacrament of 1st Eucharist in the Catholic Church.
-
Each candidate must be at least 16 years of age by the
time of celebrating the sacraments of Confirmation.
-
An individual willingness of each candidate to
participate in the program.
-
Each candidate must participate in ALL of the sessions.
If a session is missed due to an unforeseeable circumstance, the session
must be made-up. The candidate must schedule the make-up by
contacting the Director of Youth Ministry no later than one week
preceding the missed session. Candidates will not be allowed to
have more than two make-up sessions. Any candidate who exceeds the
limit of two make-up sessions will be asked to delay the reception of
the Sacrament of Confirmation until a later date.
-
Each candidate will be expected to accomplish SERVICE in
FOUR areas:
-
Liturgical (within the parish)
-
Community (at least 2 opportunities totaling 6-8
documented hours)
-
Group Service (with your home session group)
-
Parish (to be completed within and/or sponsored by
the parish, not including your liturgical service)
-
Each candidate will undergo two interviews on an
one-to-one basis. One for choosing a Liturgical service and one to
ensure their readiness for the reception of the sacrament.
-
Archdiocesan guidelines for Confirmation require that
the candidates participate in a retreat. This retreat is seen as a
integral part of the candidate's preparation. It is expected that
all candidates for Confirmation will attend the St. Dominic Confirmation
Retreat.
-
Each candidate will be expected to fill out the Faith
Inventory. This is a very important information gathering tool for
the program.
-
Each candidate will write a letter to the
Archbishop/Pastor, dependent on who is confirming, stating his or her
intention to be confirmed.
-
Each candidate is expected to fully and willingly
participate in the sacramental life of the parish.
-
The family of the candidate must be registered members
of St. Dominic Parish.
Any exceptions to the Confirmation policies listed above must be
approved by the Director of Youth Ministry.
Home Sessions
Home sessions meet on Sunday's in the group leader's or group
member's home. There are a total of seven home sessions that take place at
least once per month. Groups are comprised of 7-9 teens. These
groups are lead by a volunteer from the parish under the guidance of the
Director of Youth Ministry.
Large Group Sessions
Large group sessions meet on Sunday afternoon or evening.
There are approximately four large group sessions. Two of the large group
sessions involve the Sponsor to the candidate for Confirmation. In
addition to the above, candidates are required to participate in:
-
Four areas of service
-
A Confirmation retreat
-
A Vigil Day of Prayer
