- S.M.A.R.T. Team Advisor (2001-present) The SMART Team Program
(Students Modeling A Research Topic) is hosted by the Center for
BioMolecular Modeling at Milwaukee School of Engineering and is
designed to expose teams of high school to the real world of science
as it exists in local research labs by pairing them with scientist
mentors.

Broad Field Science 6-12
- Teacher Enhancement Program in Biology: University of
Wisconsin-Madison
Course work in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology and Bio-molecular
Modeling (Summers 1994 to 2005)
Lead Teacher for the Course: DNA Science and Biotechnology (Summer
1996)
Professional Activities: Wisconsin
Society of Science Teachers Convention –Spring 2002
-
Presented with five other biology teachers our work
done at the Center for BioMolecular Modeling (CBM) of the Milwaukee
School of Engineering (MSOE) designing rapid-prototype models of the
ribosome and other molecules involved in translation, which is the
assembly of proteins by ribosomes in a cell. Mentor: Dr. Timothy
Herman
National Association of Biology Teachers Convention -
October 2006
-
Presented “Bird Flu Knocking at the Door” with Karen
DeBoer of Kettle Moraine HS, based on two summers of work on the
Hemagglutin Project under the mentorship of Dr. Timothy Herman,
Director of the Center for BioMolecular Modeling (MSOE). Hemagglutinin
is a spike protein on the surface of the Influenza A virus which
undergoes a dramatic conformational change during the infection
process.
SUN Project Teacher Advisory Board (2007-present)
-
The Sun Project - (Students Understanding Energy) is
“a randomized, controlled trial of a new workshop and newly
developed materials to teach cellular respiration and
photosynthesis”. Principal Investigator: Dr. Ann Batiza, Center for
BioMolecular Modeling, MSOE http://cbm.msoe.edu/profDev/sun/index.html
