Extended Care
Children who are enrolled at St. Dominic School, in K-3 through Grade 6, are eligible to use Extended Care on the days they attend school. The program is directed and administered by state certified care- givers. The children are supervised in a setting that always reinforces the Christian values of kindness and fair play. Our Extended Care program encourages openness where parents are always welcome to visit their children and the staff. Mission We want to help each child adjust to the Extended Care setting. Children will adapt differently, depending on their skills, life experiences and abilities. The Extended Care curriculum seeks to expand and reinforce the academic learning that takes place in school. This teaching in the Extended Care setting is accomplished through games, crafts, stories, projects and a multitude of toys that allow each child to experience life through their imaginative and cooperative play. We encourage the older students to work with the younger students to the benefit of both. Hours of Operation: 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Forms

Letter from our Co-Directors Dear St. Dominic Parish Families: With the need for care outside of a child’s school day, and realizing that children do not stop learning when they leave their classrooms, Extended Care for our school children has become an important part of what St. Dominic School has to offer. Children never stop learning, and what place could be better than inside of our great school in our very own Extended Care? We look at our roles in Extended Care as an opportunity to continue the learning that takes place in the classroom (with a touch of home), in a safe, caring environment. Today, it is not always possible for parents to be at home with their children as much as they would like. That is where Extended Care can help. During the day, children learn the feeling of accomplishment from doing a fun craft or a puzzle. They learn fairness and good sportsmanship from playing a game. They learn technology and small motor skills from our computer games. They learn and reinforce positive social skills by working on their manners. They learn and practice their numbers in circle time. Most importantly, children learn about their Savior by going to Mass, through prayer, and by talking about the church year. Extended Care does all of this in an atmosphere of fun, while trying to make it feel like home. We bake cookies and bread, and read stories, because that is probably what Mom or Dad would do if they were able to be home with their young children. At Saint Dominic’s, your young child can attend the K3, K4 and half day K5 programs and spend the rest of the day in Extended Care in a safe, caring and fun environment. Your all day K5 student through grade 6 student can spend early morning time (before school) 7:00 am-7:40 am, and the time from the end of class time until 5:30 pm without the worry of leaving the building to get on a bus to go to another daycare. After school, we realize that the older children need to get homework done. There is so much going on after school and so little time. We provide a quiet place so that homework can be completed. We also realize that after a long school day children also need to unwind a bit. When weather permits, we spend some after school time outside (just as if the children were at home). Extended Care is like an extended family. We take care of some of the children from 3 years of age until they are 9 (for 6 years!). We get to know them very well, and make a point of focusing on each child’s positive strengths, while helping them to become more independent and responsible students. Positive relationships are formed between the younger and the older students (almost like brothers and sisters). Last year one of our older students won an award in the community for mentoring younger children in Extended Care. (Angela Verish, Kohl’s Cares for Kids). All the employees of Extended Care are state certified or working towards certification. Oh, and about fun, stop by and ask any Extended Care student about the Leprechaun trap. You will get an ear full! Thank you for your support of St. Dominic School and our Extended Care Program. Sincerely, The St. Dominic School
